Alba Cristina Magalhaes Alves de Melo obtained her PhD in Computer Science from the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble (INPG), France, in 1996. Since 1997, she works at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Brasilia, Brazil, where she is now Full Professor and Vice-Head of the Department. She is also a CNPq Research Fellow level 1C. In 2011, she was invited as Guest Scientist at Université Paris-Sud, France; in 2013 she did a sabbatical at the Universitat Polytecnica de Catalunya, Spain. In 2018, she was invited as Guest Scientist at the Institute National Polytechnique de Grenoble, France. Her research interests are High Performance Computing, Bioinformatics and Accelerators (GPUs, FPGAs). In 2016, she received the Brazilian Capes Award on “Advisor of the Best PhD Thesis in Computer Science”, which is the most prestigious award for PhD Theses in Brazil. In 2019, she received the Wilkes Award for the Best Paper published in the Computer Journal in 2018. In 2019, she received the Award for Editorial Excellence as Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems. Prof. Melo was Keynote Speaker at the international events HPC+Big Data Workshop (Temuco, Chile), HeteroPar 2018 (Torino, Italy) and IEEE APDCM 2019 (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). She gave invited talks at the event ScalPerf 2019 (Bertinoro, Italy) and at several Universities around the world (University of Ottawa, Canada, 2008, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany, 2010, Université Paris-Sud, France, 2011, Universidad del Chile, Chile, 2011, Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, Spain, 2013, École National Superieure de Lyon, France, 2018, among others). She is Senior Member of the IEEE Computer Society and the Chair of the IEEE Professional Chapter - Computer Society - in IEEE Center-North Region, Brazil. From 2015 to 2019, she was member of the Editorial Board of IEEE Transactions of Parallel and Distributed Systems and she is currently member of the Editorial Board of IEEE Transactions on Computers. She was Vice Program Chair of IEEE International Parallel and Distributed Processing Symposium (IPDPS) 2019 and she is co-General Chair of the IEEE International Workshop on High Performance Computational Biology (HiCOMB). She has served as Program Committee Member in many prestigious conferences such as IPDPS, Supercomputing, ICPP, ICS, Euro-Par, CCGrid, ISC, SBAC-PAD and HiPC.
